Everton Football Club organised their annual girls’ football tournament and Kirkby High School received our first invitation to take part. We currently have a very strong Under 13 squad of players with 3 students playing for girls’ league teams outside of school. The tournament took place at Finch Farm (Everton’s Football training ground) and was very well organised. We were drawn in a tough mini-league with Broughton Hall, Halewood and Broadgreen schools on our pitch. We won our first game against Halewood (7-0) with a hat-trick from both Jennifer Beech and Chloe Henderson and a stunning goal from Ashley Longworth. The second game against Broadgreen was a convincing 2-0 win. However, Broughton Hall beat us 3-1 after a valiant effort by the whole squad.
Kirkby High School overall has had a good Girls Football season (2013-14), competing in several rounds of the English Schools FA national competition for U13, U14 and U15 age categories. We advanced through to the quarter and semi-finals of the Merseyside Cup for U15 and U14 teams respectively. We are currently in the semi-finals of the Merseyside Cup for U13’s with an exciting fixture looming against Broughton Hall. Will we prove a stronger outfit playing them with 11-a-side this time around?
